Dental Crowns

A crown is essentially a hollow porcelain tooth that is designed to provide strength and prevent further damage to a natural tooth. A crown is fitted and slipped over the prepared affected tooth. Crowns are also used in certain procedures such as bridges or root canals and are primarily implemented on teeth that are damaged with chips or cracks, or that have large cavities that compromise a tooth’s strength.

Some secondary uses include sealing a sensitive tooth or closing minor gaps between teeth. To start the procedure, Dr. Creaghe removes any damaged or decaying portions of your tooth. This may involve minor grinding or drilling. Then a mold of the area is made from which to take precise measurements, and the crown is fabricated in a dental laboratory.

The procedure will be completed at your next appointment when the crown is bonded into its permanent position. For beautifully designed and skillfully placed crowns, contact Dr. Creaghe’s office in San Rafael, CA. We utilize the latest in dental technology (CEREC). This allows us to deliver a more precise fitting crown in faster time than traditional labs. CEREC’s accuracy and precision ensures a high quality crown in an efficient manner.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Innovations in dental technology have made a trip to the dentist’s an entirely new experience for millions of Americans – thanks to a relatively new field called cosmetic dentistry.

The main goal of traditional dentistry is to keep your teeth healthy and free of disease and decay; cosmetic dentistry takes oral hygiene to a whole new level, with a concentration on enhancing the overall look of your teeth. With cosmetic dentistry, even getting a cavity filled can be an opportunity to improve your smile.

The smile is our window to the world, and it’s the first thing that makes an impression on people we meet. So it’s no wonder that more and more people are turning to cosmetic dentistry for corrective procedures and aesthetic enhancement.

Dr. Creaghe is one of the most highly skilled cosmetic dentists in the San Rafael, CA area. If you live or work in Marin County, we invite you to call our office today to set up an appointment for your initial exam and cosmetic consultation.

Dental Veneers

A porcelain veneer is a slim cover of tooth-colored porcelain that is used in cosmetic dentistry. The use of porcelain veneers is one of the most effective ways to conceal imperfections in the appearance of your teeth. If your teeth are yellow from age or deferred hygiene, if they are stained from tobacco use or coffee, or if they have unsightly chips or irregularities, porcelain veneers offer one of the best solutions to improve your appearance.

At your appointment at our San Rafael, CA office, Dr. Creaghe first planes off a thin layer of enamel.

This is done to prepare the tooth’s surface for bonding. He then makes a set of molds of your teeth and sends them to an outside dental lab where the veneers will be manufactured. In about 2 weeks the porcelain veneers will be ready for placement: Each one will be precisely bonded over its corresponding tooth. With your new veneers in place, your smile will be beautiful, and you’ll be ready to show it off to the world. Don’t delay getting your perfect smile any longer. Contact our San Rafael dental office today, and we’ll be happy to talk to you about how to get a great smile makeover.

Dental Bridges

Having one or more missing teeth can have a serious effect not only on your smile, but also on your dental health. Specifically, missing teeth can cause:

  •  A shift in the alignment of your teeth?
  •  Increased risk of periodontal disease
  •  Increased risk of tooth decay
  •  Loss of adjacent teeth
  •  Speech disorders
  •  Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)

What Are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth with a restoration that is strong enough to withstand everyday chewing, but that does not require surgery to secure into place. Dr. Creaghe is renowned in San Rafael, CA for creating aesthetic dental bridges. Contact his office to schedule an appointment to discuss this procedure. Dr. Creaghe begins by taking measurements of the gap between your teeth to be filled and carving a replacement tooth from a piece of porcelain ceramic. Your just milled new tooth is a solid porcelain block bonded over the teeth on either side of the gap. The solid porcelain bridge stays in place so that its alignment matches your surrounding teeth perfectly and fits with your natural bite.

Composite Fillings

For over 150 years, cavities were filled with a mixture of metals, including silver and mercury. It was perfectly normal to see dark grey areas in someone’s mouth when they laughed.

But today, you can get your cavities, as well as any other smaller hollow areas in your teeth, filled with composite fillings. Composite fillings are made from resins that are matched to your tooth’s color – so they become invisible when applied.

Composite fillings also provide an excellent seal on the affected area, so that tooth decay can be prevented. The factors that go into our decision to use composite fillings include:

  •  The size of the area that needs to be filled
  •  The location of the affected area in the mouth (i.e., a tooth that is heavily relied on for chewing)
  •  The preference of the patient regarding the use of metals in the mouth
  •  Whether it is necessary cosmetically to have a tooth-colored filling

Clear Braces

ClearCorrect invisible braces are the clear and simple way to straighten your teeth so you can show off your smile!

With ClearCorrect Braces, Dr. Creaghe, DDS can straighten your teeth using a series of clear, custom, removable aligners. Each aligner moves your teeth just a little bit at a time until you eventually get straight teeth.

Root Canals

Root canals are performed to save your tooth by stopping the decay. When the root of a tooth becomes damaged from infection or injury, it can cause many problems. The infected root and surrounding pulp will literally begin to rot the tooth from within, and if no action is taken, the decay may worsen to the point that the tooth will die and will need to be extracted. It is essential to prevent the loss of your teeth, so if you are experiencing a toothache or pain of any kind, please contact Dr. Creaghe immediately.

As one of the top dentists in San Rafael, CA, he will quickly determine if a root canal, or another procedure, is necessary. During the root canal procedure, Dr. Creaghe drills through the surface of your tooth to expose the root, then extracts all the infected tissue.

Using a biocompatible material, the root canal is filled, and the entire tooth is capped with a porcelain crown that matches the color of your surrounding teeth. The tooth will then be pain free, and you will be able to chew normally.

Call us to learn more about the root canal treatment and whether this option is right for you.

Teeth Whitening

Having beautiful white teeth is important because your smile is one of the most noticeable of your features. A great smile is an especially valuable asset for making good first impressions. Whether you have stains from tobacco, heavy coffee drinking, age, or deferred hygiene, you can have whiter teeth with a single professional teeth whitening appointment in our San Rafael, CA office. Whereas over-the-counter treatments such as whitening strips produce moderate results with extended periods of use, our revolutionary BriteSmile® solution is powerful enough to transform your appearance in just one hour. During the procedure BriteSmile® whitening gel is placed in direct contact with your teeth, and a special blue light activates the gel. The results are amazing: Your tooth color can become up to 9 shades brighter!

Contact Dr. Creaghe today to schedule your BriteSmile® Professional Tooth Whitening appointment.

Dentures

Whether from disease, malnutrition or genetic disorders, sometimes it is necessary for us to extract all of a patient’s lower or upper teeth. While this can be devastating, dentures can provide a second chance at a beautiful smile.

Having complete dentures help with chewing as well as support one’s facial structure and improve speech. With immediate dentures, you can have a full set of teeth while you are waiting for your gums to heal and your bone to realign after having teeth removed.

Sometimes, complete dentures are not necessary. Partial dentures can replace a string of missing teeth, and are secured to your remaining teeth with clasps.

No matter which kind of dentures you choose, you can be assured to receive natural-looking dentures that match your facial structure and desired tooth color.

For more information, please contact us today.

Periodontal

Periodontics refers to the treatment and maintenance of the structure that supports your teeth – namely, the gums and bone matter.

Gingivitis is an early form of periodontitis, or gum disease. If you experience an occasional swelling of the gums, gums that bleed after brushing or flossing, itchy gums, or bright red or purple gums, chances are you have gingivitis. Gingivitis can be treated by having your teeth professionally cleaned, followed by a strict oral hygiene regimen, including anti-bacterial rinses.

Left untreated, gingivitis can escalate into periodontitis – although there are other factors that can contribute to the disease, including smoking, genetic tendencies, and unchecked diabetes. Periodontitis symptoms include those of gingivitis, as well as a metallic taste in the mouth, receding gums, enlarged spaces between the gums and teeth, severe halitosis (bad breath), and even loose teeth (from loss of bone).
